Are Americans Fed Up With High Price of Health Care?

By Joshua Daily

The American health care system is thought of by many to be the greatest and most well established systems in the world. America has become known as the standard for which healthcare excellence is measured. But what good is the best health care if you can't afford to use it.? In a recent poll of 1201 Americans done by USA Today and the Kaiser Family Foundation, it was found that there is a dramatic concern about the rising costs of healthcare.

Many Americans are growing tired of the skyrocketing price of healthcare. 'Every year we wind up paying more and getting less coverage,' said Tammy Dourgherty to USA Today. Just 44% of the respondents that were polled said that they were happy with the healthcare system. Average premiums by the insurance companies have risen 87% since 2000 and workers earnings have only risen 20%.

Almost 80% of the respondents say that they are not satisfied with the total $2.2 trillion or $7,129 per person that the nation spends on health care per year. More than half of the people polled blamed the outrageous profits of both drug and insurance companies as for the increase, while 37% believed too many medical malpractices as well as doctors and hospitals making too much money.

The government claims to be taking steps to try to slow down the rise of healthcare, however relief is no where in sight. Until the government provides price controls on how much drug companies are allowed to charge for their medications, I would not expect to see any type of change in the near future. The government won't implement price controls because they say that it stifles creativity, but what good are the new creative drugs going to do if the average American cant afford them. Canada offers most every drug you can find on American pharmacy drug shelves, but since they have price controls their citizens can actually afford them. The only reason America doesn't have price controls is in order to protect the profits of American drug companies.

To lower your cost of your personal healthcare, shop around for the cheapest source for your prescription medication online. Canadian and overseas pharmacies are convenient, safe, and can save you up to 70% on your prescription.
