How to have affordable healthcare benefits.........and a good income too

By Kamala Paul

In the best of times maintaining quality healthcare benefits can be a challenge.

Today, major companies seem to be laying off employees and reducing employee benefits. Small businesses often have to weigh the cost of employee benefits versus staying price competitive.

Most companies provide no benefits at all for part-time employees. Employees, in general, are finding they are carrying more of the burden of the cost of their health benefits.

The self-employed may have the greatest financial burden of all when it comes to funding their own health benefits.

It is obvious everyone needs to step up and take responsibility for their own healthcare.

How is that possible?

The elderly struggle to make ends meet even with their government medical benefits. There are so many people that are underinsured or completely uninsured. Others have pre-existing conditions and cannot qualify for benefits from mainstream insurers. This places a huge burden on emergency rooms, free clinics and ultimately taxpayers.

If you can no longer depend on your employers, politicians or insurance companies to help, where do you look?

One valuable resource can be family members and friends. Also, many communities are making efforts to help people find resources.

There are entrepreneurial companies coming to the forefront, both offline and online, helping fill the void of high quality healthcare benefits.

The bottom line- If you are willing to take the time to search for resources to help yourself you will be rewarded for your efforts. Be sure to do your due diligence to insure the companies you are dealing with are legitimate and reputable.

Perhaps the best alternative is the home business in the health industry that also provides a wide range of high quality, affordable healthcare benefits. Case in point- Wesley and Kamala, both well qualified teachers, immigrated to the United States from Sri Lanka. They were only able to find low income, part-time jobs. They persevered through a layoff and other challenges. With the help of their son, they now enjoy a good income from their home business along with a package of high quality, reliable and affordable health benefits, even though Wesley has a pre-existing heart condition. Peace of mind can be yours too if you are willing to look for it.
