How is Obama's healthcare plan going to socialize medicine?

Can you answer iFishie's question about Healthcare?:

He's not going to shut down any current healthcare corporations, he's not mandating that you have to have insurance, he's saying health care should be affordable and that no one should be denided coverage. If anything his plan is going to provide more competition and make the industry step up its game
Brooke, you seem to be missing the detail that people will still be paying to be insured, they will be paying the government program instead. You pay for Medicare and Medicad. Should those be cut too?

Umm…You need to read it again

Joan L @ 6:28 pm

It's not. It will let many more Americans buy health care.

McCain's plan is to tax you on employee subsidized plans and give $2500 break for folks to buy their own private insurance. This will drive people out of employee plans, skyrocket the prices, and crash the whole system. Btw, good luck trying to get good insurance with the $2500 he gave you. Better start taking those vitamins.

Your question is proof that we have a problem with Obama backer being informed and understanding of the problems and his promises. All Obama backers not only lie to themselves they try to make everyone else think they are true.

He's not. In fact his plan doesn't go far enough. Like Bill Clinton's plan, like Hillary Clinton's plan, and like GHW Bush's plan, Obama's plan is a huge compromise that ends up strengthening the grip of the big health insurance companies and enriching them with govt. funds.

Republicans like to use the word 'socialism' for anything they don't like. This is HARDLY socialism. Actually real 'socialized medicine' like they have in the UK might work better. But what most Americans want is a 'Canadian style' single payer plan, which also is not socialized medicine.

He will provide Health insurance for those that can't afford it at your expense. If for some reason you lose your job, you too will be qualified, at a cost. If you own anything, then you will owe them. So it won't change that much. Insurance will be mandatory for children, so you will be paying for them too. It sounds good when he is up on stage preaching it. but when you grasp the reality of it, it's not so pretty.

C'mon, the insurance industry already opeerates under those guidelines, thanks to Hillary when Bill was president. We have the CHIPS program thanks to her, which offers health care to families of lower income (for those folowing the McCain thing, he voted against the bill that would allow taking money from Social Security to fund CHIPS; he did not vote to obliterate it, and it is still in place). We have Medicaid. There are many small businesses which offer health care at an affordable price (my first husband worked for one). I don't know of anyone who has been denied coverage except for the specialty insurance plans (like the cancer coverage that I have been denied because I had cancer ten years ago). Oh yeah, and despite this fact of cancer, BC/BS has not raised our premiums for our healthcare package, and it currently remains affordable. Nor have they raised our premiums due to my recent run-ins with colon problems. What do I fear with Obama's plans? He is using the same rhetoric that Hillary used when she ushered in the era of the HMO, which made me wait five YEARS for my cancer treatment. I currently have colon problems; if we had been on another plan like an HMO, my colon could have ruptured and I could have died waiting for treatment. Another HMO era under the guise of a different name could be detrimental to my health.

Uh, wrong. He wants the govt to mandate that everybody get insurance and the govt cover it as well hve the govt mandate what care you can get. That does not breed socialism, if anything it will just make insurance companies raise their rates and make things get worse, a lot worse.

The only thing I read, and this was long ago when Obama wasn't the presumed candidate, was he wanted to provide healthcare to all children first. Well, that's an emotional issue — kids, it's half-baked and it provides a bump in the road for the opposition stall with before considering health care for all.

If you look at a map of the declining demographics getting health care, the map will show you it is the southern border states like California and Texas. Folks up in the central and northern part of America might not see the urgency.

But, the fact of the matter is, without health insurance any retirement plans are nothing but a game of luck.
