What makes you think Universal healthcare is the way to go?
Can you answer drunkenchicken55's question about Healthcare?:
^^^
I want to know what is going on in the head of a democrat in favor of universal healthcare. I just want to know why you want it, and why you think it would work better than what they have in canada and england.
I am not going to argue with you, but I want you to try to persuade me.

I don't think it is the way to go. How do you think universal education has gone so far???? Got my point.
I know you probably won't because Michael Moore did it, but go watch Sicko and you will understand why Democrats are for Universal Healthcare.
…it is what they have in Canada and England.
I want it simply because I think everyone deserves health care. You can say, "Well I don't want to pay for other people, I've worked all my life and this money is MINE!" Well, people said that hundreds of years ago about education, and now it is reasonably accepted that everyone deserves the right to a public education. Why not public health care? Also, poor children, it's not their fault. Should they get sick and possibly die just because their parents don't make enough money?
You can also say that the care wouldn't be as good, but I would rather have mediocre health care than none at all. But I have never heard complaints from a Canadian or Brit, anyway. And the health care situation right now is NOT good. Like, I can't go to the doctor because we are in the process of switching health care providers, and if I go now, they will count it as a pre-existing condition and not cover it. That isn't fair!
EDIT: And I just have to say- brilliant reasoning, JJ! You're the kind of Republican I can get down with.
The premise of universal healthcare sounds nice. Yet there are many issues in other countries who do have it regarding extraordinary high taxation on the people (see France) to fund programs like this.
Although it sounds nice, I think overall we are steering this country into a socialist society (where production is owned collectively) which is a bad direction in the long run. A country high is socialist views become communist (government run). I know this is a stretch that this could ever happen to the US but it does show why I tend to look for solutions the other way.
Universal healthcare is impossible, unless you want your medical/economic system to be in shambles. The idiots over in Europe have been trying to do it for years, and even the Canadians can't make it work. Even European countries that used to be communist are now switching to flat-tax systems, lol. Its a joke.

well, im not a democrat, i'm a republican. But i favor universal healthcare. we are the richest country in the world and should be able to provide healthcare to everybody. its a national embarrassment that other industrialized countries can provide it but we cant. i dont believe in socialistic economies or government programs. but health is different. health is not something that should be bought and sold. kind of like air, or sunshine. the fact that we americans pay outrageous taxes and are not provided healthcare is a disgrace. we should not be wasting our money overseas funding dictatorships and supporting 700 military bases around the world..
Now, some people would argue about how horrible the universal healthcare is in canada, england and 40 other countries. the fact is, thats propaganda from the insurance and healthcare industry. people believe what they hear if it fits thier agenda. ask any canadian how thier healthcare is and they will tell you its GREAT, ask them if they would trade it for american healthcare and they will laugh in your face. operations that we pay thousands for cost nothing in canada, england, etc. prescription pills that we pay hundreds of dollars a script for, they cost virtually nothing in canada and england. many americans are now crossing the border to canada to get healthcare and medicine because america has let them down.
our current healthcare system is the work of Richard Nixon, it was discoved in his audio tapes that he deliberatly instituted this system knowing full well that it was based on more profit and less care. he was a disgrace and so is this healthcare system.
im not sayin i support hilary for president, because i dont. but we need universal healthcare in america.
why are people of developing countries living longer lives than americans? shame on the american government
Here is my story. I am a father of 3 boys, we all, including my wife wear glasses. This past year we all saw a dentist, we all went to our family doctor, we all saw an optometrist. We had 6 ER room visits and an emergency dental visit where one of our boys had 4 teeth cracked by a bat. Our oldest spent a Friday night in the ER complaining of stomach pains, 8 or 10 tests were run including 2 cat scans, on Saturday his appendix was taken out. How much do you think we paid out of pocket? And by the way, I am a long haul trucker and pay 28-30% in taxes. Our out of pocket costs for this Health Care was less than $100.00. I live in New Brunswick, CANADA. Anyone that says our system doesn't work has no idea and I am NOT taxed to death. I wrote this for JJ and have told my story a few times to people who ask this question. The only ones who can make a difference in your Health Care in the US is you. This is my story, believe it or not and if you want to call me a liar, e-mail me from my profile and I'll give you directions to my home and you can say it to my face. I have no reason to lie, giant pharmaceutical companies are the only ones that stand to lose along with mutli-national insurance companies and it is their lobbiests that spread the wrong information about being taxed to death and if our government fails to deliver on Health care, we also get to vote them out every 4 years, like you do. Health care for the sake of Health or Health care for profit, it is your choice but don't dare say our system doesn't work, you compare my costs to yours.
I'm not trying to persuade you I'm just saying what I hear. I heard/understand that universal healthcare is necessary because of the population explosion (both in immigrants coming to the US and in seniors, as well as the poor in the US). Too much of this need for care (whether it be food, housing or healthcare) can bring in unsavory groups from other countries to turn Americans to their way of thinking. To avoid that we must provide for our own people. There is a second reason and that it's America is strong and "should" provide for their own people anyway.
